Ten Great Things To Do In The Cape Town Peninsula

Cape Town South Africa

Cape Town is the legislative capital city of South Africa and the second most populated city in the nation, and the capital of the Western Cape Province. The city itself offers plenty of attractions and there is much stunning beauty to be discovered along the Cape Peninsula. Interested in visiting this wonderful part of South Africa?

10 Great things you can see and do in the Cape Town Peninsula (in no particular order):

1. Visit Table Mountain. The majestic Table Mountain overlooks the entire city. You can climb it, but if you don’t feel too energetic you can also take a cable car to the top of it! There are plenty of walking trails in the area that will surely interest you!

2. Take a drive around the scenic coastline around Hout Bay, and enjoy the stunning views of Chapman’s Peak Drive, which is overlooked by the imposing Table Mountain. Enjoy the spectacular views of the bay or perhaps take a boat rider to Duiker Island. A visit to Hout May Museum may also interest you, so as to find out about the area.

3. Explore Cape Town City itself. Check out the city itself and visit the attractions such as the Victoria and Albert Waterfront which is a massive shopping and entertainment area which is located between historic Robben Island and Table Mountain right in the heart of Cape Town Harbour.

4. Take a trip to Seal Island, which is off the coast from Hout Bay Harbour. For those with a love of nature, the sight of the seals jostling for position in their natural habitats is a sight to behold.

5. Visit the wonderful beach at Llandudno, which is surrounded by bounders that are huge and made of granite. The mountains that tower imposingly over the peninsula overlook it. Sandy Bay is a wonderful beach that is just a short walk from Llandudno. The beach is private and the tranquility of the beach will astound you.

6. Take a trip to Cape Point and enjoy wonderful vistas of the ocean from this strikingly beautiful vantage point. A visit here is a must for any visitor to Cape Town. Located along the southern end of the Cape Peninsula, Cape Point is located in the 7,800 hectare Good Hope area of the Cape Peninsula National Park. Cape Point runs north south for around 30km at the extreme southwestern tip of the African continent. The Cape of Good Hope is just a short 2km drive away. Be prepared to see some wonderful fauna here: it is home to wonderful birdlife, antelopes, zebras and other animals. Baboons are also to be seen in the park. The scrub like fynbos vegetation which is native to the Cape Region is also apparent here.

7. Ensure to visit Boulders Beach, which has an interesting nature reserve on the beach which provides a safe haven for the wonderful penguins. Located around 30 minutes drive from Hout Bay lies Boulders Beach, which has a wonderful beach and a marvellous colony of the penguin family.

8. Do the Chapman’s Peak Drive which is a wonderful scenic drive between Noordhoek and Hout Bay. You will get fantastic scenic views of Hout Bay, the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and Long Beach. The drive is just less than 10km in length, and has over 100 winding curves as it winds along the rocky coastline of Chapman’s Peak.

9. Discover the Cape Town Winelands, which are located to the north east of the city. Stellenbosch is perhaps the most famous location in the Winelands Region. It is a perfect place to discover some of the wines like Boschendal and Delheim to name but a few. This was one of the first settlements by the European explorers. Constantia Valley and Franschhoek are other areas to check out if enjoying fine wine is your fancy! Find out more about the Cape Winelands Region.

10. Enjoy Whale Watching at the Cape Peninsula by taking a trip to Hermanus, around one and a half hours from Cape Town. The charming seaside town is noted as being one of the best whale watching destinations in the world. The period between August and November is by far the best time to watch these wonderful mammals. During this time, the bay will be dotted with files. Just walk along the cliff patch that runs for 12km from one end of Hermanus to the other and you should catch sight of these wonderful creatures in action! There are also excellent beaches to be found here. Discover more about Tourism in Hermanus.

Cape Town doing well despite recession

The tourism industry for Cape Town and the Western Cape is coping for the first part of this current economic climate that the world is in, according to the tourism report for 2008 just recently released by South Africa Tourism.

The spend on domestic holidays for South Africa (SA) increased by 8.3 per cent in 2008 against the previous year and the Western Cape took more than 15 per cent of that income.

“Compared to international tourism, domestic tourism makes a lesser but very vital contribution to the local economy. It is regarded as the backbone of the local industry and therefore enjoys strong support from us,” said chief executive officer of Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU), Calvyn Gilfellan.

With the largest sporting event to hit South Africa next year, the football World Cup, CTRU are looking to keep their tourism industry thriving after the event. ‘Beyond the 90 Minutes’ is SA’s answer after the legion of fans have left to go home and is aimed at improving tourism through out the country. CTRU want the tourism sectors to join forces in promoting SA in a proactive movement to keep their tourism economy going long after the World Cup.

Luxury Car Hire in Cape Town

(This is not a paid for, nor endorsed review, rather just a brand I believe to be highly reputable and respectable for luxury car hire in Cape Town)

When looking to hire luxury cars in Cape Town, and also to hire limos in Cape Town, there is only one place to look and that is SLV or Status Luxury Vehicles.

The Cape Town lifestyle was tailor made for cruising in luxury cars and anything else simply will not do. If you want to live the lifestyle while you’re visiting Cape Town, you’re going to need a vehicle of status. Lamborghinis and Ferraris are standard in this city, and with a favourable exchange rate, if you’re coming from England or the USA, then you really have no excuse for driving a vehicle that is less than exotic!

Status Luxury Vehicles offer the finest vehicles in Cape Town and I’ve personally looked over their list of luxury cars to rent in Cape Town, and it’s a definite first rate choice.

Whether it be a Mercedes s600 for the executive visiting Cape Towns shores, or a Lamborghini Gallardo for the young high flyer, SLV has it all.

Are you more stately than that? Well then the Rolls Royce Phantom for hire in Cape Town will do just fine. Elegant, luxurious and regal, it’s the car for the more astute business person.

Cape Town in summer is a playboys dream, and the Ferrarri F43o Spider or the Mercedes SLK 55AMG convertible will be great for railing around the coast, from Camps Bay, past Llandudno where you can stop in at your rented villa, Villa Lara, for a little siesta.

Then through Hout Bay and into the quaint village of Noordhoek for some evening shenanigans.

If this sounds like you, then simply click HERE for luxury car hire in Cape Town.
